About Us...
The people behind TI
Trakehners International started as an international friendship of Trakehner lovers from Germany
and the United States in early 2001. What began over 5 years ago as an idea of how to connect the Trakehner fan
clubs in the world has turned into the number one place on the web
for Trakehner news, features and sales horses for customers around the globe. US-based TI foundation members Kim Hunter and Dr. Maren Engelhardt are backed up by their European connection via Dr. Klaus Engelhardt in Waldmohr, Germany. International correspondents from Holland, Russia, Australia, and other countries help to bring top stories for the news section of TI and we are proud that our quality team is growing constantly.
One of the primary goals of Trakehners International is the promotion of the breed. Kim's background in advertising management at international corporations like The Walt Disney Company and Clear Channel Communications, make her uniquely qualified to develop avenues for doing this. Education is the most powerful tool we have against misinformation, misconception or just plain ignorance. The more people who are open to experiencing this wonderful breed, the more powerful the "word of mouth" will become in support of the Trakehner. The Engelhardt family backs this expertise with 6 generations of Trakehner horse breeding and riding. Their breeding operation in Germany is unique and international, made up of great friends around the world. The sales network the family established since 2000 and the memorable sale of the worldwide No. 1 eventing stallion Windfall *Pg* is truely one of its kind and operates on a very personal level. TI is not a large-scale market place for horses, we take pride in the fact that we are small, and very client-oriented!

Our incentive
As TI partner Kim
Hunter points out so fittingly "The Trakehner reputation for being "too hot", "too temperamental", etc. continues to be a source of annoyment to me. True, Trakehners aren't for everyone but often this opinion is held by an equestrian who's never seen (much less ridden) a Trakehner. If this mindset is not addressed, those of us who ride and breed Trakehners run the risk of becoming myopic; we know the "too hot, sensitive" mindset is a mis-conception born of rumour and innuendo, but unless we take active steps to educate the public, we're simply left with the alternative of thinking among ourselves how wrong "they" are."
That the Trakehner is used to reinforce type, nerve and beauty in nearly all other warmblood breeds yet compete and win against them as a separate breed puts the Trakehner in a class of their own. Similar to thoroughbreds and Arabians, the Trakehner can improve other breeds, but if the reverse is tried, type is diminished.

The photographers
Without them, this site would be only half as interesting. We owe a lot to photographers who are willing to submit photos for the "payment" of a link to their name only. We are eternally greatful to them, and honor them on their own page here on Trakehners International. Make sure to visit their sites for exciting photography, and consider their services when you need outstanding image work.
