State Trakehner Mare Show Schleswig-Holstein, June7-8th 2008

Introduction

State Mare Shows have a long tradition in the Trakehner breed in Germany and are held only every 7 years - so the event is of significant importance to breeders. The best mares of each breeding district are invited to participate in this in hand competition that - as a newly added feature - also has free jumping available for the mares that are bred as show jumpers. All horses are competing in age-selected classes and the youngest mares shown are 2 years old. A State Mare Show is a wonderful opportunity to see some of the breed's best mares at a current point in time, many of them with foals at their side. And a very special feature are the family classes where breeders can present one mare and two of her offspring, or if the mare is already deceased, three offspring in a "get of mare" class. The best mares for the final ring are selected from all age classes - and out fo the final ring, the champion and reserve champion mares are announced.

As judges, the Verband invited Anders Dahl, the director of the Danish Trakehner Association, Friedrich Jahncke, honorary director of the Hanoverian Verband, and Dr. Thomas Nissen, breed director of the Holsteiner Verband. In June 2008, the breeding district of Schleswig-Holstein hosted its State Mare Show at the same weekend that the Central Mare inspection took place. Below are the results for each class and an introduction to the Champions and Reserve Champions in each class.
