The International Trakehner Bundesturnier 2010
The Trakehner family gathered in Hanover during the weekend of July 22nd-25th 2010. The Bundesturnier is the only Championship of its kind in Germany, where one breed comes together to compare, compete, to select the riding horses for the Bundeschampionat in Warendorf, and to stage a nightime auction of elite foals prior to the main event in Neumünster. In 2010, The Netherlands were the official partner nation for the event in Germany, and put together a wonderful tent with treats, memorabilia of many most successful years of the Trakehner in Holland, and much more. Antoon van Oscht, the head of "Trakehner Contact nederland", TCN, presented Anna and Jan Schuil with a beautiful statue of the famous Trakehner stallion Doruto. The breeders of Moorland's Totilas have been long-time fans of the Trakehner horse and come to Hanover and also the approvals in Neumünster every year. All their brood mares, KWPN and Trakehner, are bred to Trakehner stallions only, and a number of very successful competition horses indicate the success of this philosophy. Of course, European Champion, Aachen Champion and World Cup winner Moorland's Totilas stands out most.
Since 2009, the Bundesturnier is also back to offering classes for drivers, which has been accepted with much enthusiam. The Trakehner has a century long history of being a world class driving horse, and finally the Bundesturnier lives up to this tradition. Dressage and show jumper classes were offered at S level, while eventing and driving was limited to young horse classes at training and preliminary level. The venue tales place at Hanover's beautiful Equestrian Stadium in the North of the city. Wide open spaces, dressage arenas nestled among trees and a full cross country course are a perfect surrounding for this wonderful event. For breeders, a visit to Hanover is also a must. No other breed produces as many S level successful approved stallions as the Trakehner (worldwide!) and Hanover offers a unique opportunity to see many of them in action. It would be great if more international guests would show up here. Not only is the weather considerably better than in Neumünster in October, but the performance aspect of our breed is much more in focus here. Thanks to the team of the breeding district of Lower-Saxony around Jürgen Hanke, the Bundesturnier is free to visitors at all days, including for the foal auction sturday night, and the hospitality and enthusiam of the Trakehner family is quite exciting!
