The Trakehner Influence in Hanover

The news millenia - from Hofrat to Buddenbrock

So where is Hanover heading now? New, younger Trakehner stallions, many of them with their own performance records at the highest levels, are attracting more Hanoverian mares than ever before. In fact, one could speculate that a new "boom" is under way, since Trakehners now have reached a top standard as dressage sires, and prove to be the much needed outside blood source for Hanover without compromising movement and rideability.

Hofrat by EH Gribaldi out of Habsburg II by Guter Stern - Effekt. Hofrat was the 2000 reserve champion in Neumünster where he sold at auction for 170,000DM to the Peters' Meyerhof stud in Lower-Saxony. He was the first Trakehner for the family, and a huge success story. Hofrat today, has a FEI dressage career under his belt, and sired the exceptional 2005 Hanoverian approval champion Hotline (dam by De Niro), who broke the already dazzling record His Highness established in 2002: for 800,000 Euro, the dark bay stallion was bought in partnershhip by Paul Schokemöhle and the Danish Blue Hors stud. Hofrat profited by high breeding numbers in 2006, and Hotline impressed the crowds with simply never-before-seen appearances at stallion shows in Germany. Hofrat's full brother Hoftänzer, reserve champion in Neumünster in 2001, and an equally successful dressage stallion, might be following his big brother's steps...

Buddenbrock by EH Sixtus out of SPS+ES Ballerina by Diamant-Burnus AAH. Buddenbrock was approved out of Sixtus' first foal crop in Neumünster and quietly started his career at Gestüt Hörem in Lower-Saxony. His first stallion crop in Neumünster came with a big bang, and out of his first year, the champion King Arthur (by now a successful Inter I dressage stallion at only 8 years of age) and Connery were approved. Buddenbrock qualified for the Bundeschampionat in eventing with Andreas Dibowski, but his unlimited demand at stud cut his promising career short and after a one-time appearance in Warendorf and a placing in the finals, Buddenbrock now stands at stud professionally. He shares the same station with his son Connery, who finished his performance tests for full approval status via 30 day test and tweo consecutive qualifications for the Bundeschampionat (dressage). This brilliant and refined bay stallion might actually open a new chapter in the Trakehner breed, and clearly has proved to be a super match for Hanover as well. Both sire and son have been leased by Celle for some time now as Hanoverian State Stud stallions, but remain in training and at station in Hörem.

EH Banditentraum by Kiebitz out of Beauty by Mozart-Cardinal xx This chestnut, who qualified for the Bundeschampionat as a youngster and won his 100 day test in Warendrof with an impressive 1st place in dressage and 3rd in jumping, has had very positive effects in Hanover. He added exceptional rideability and great movement while maintaining frame and power of the Hanoverian in an ideal manner, which resulted in three approved sons in Verden. The most prominent one is Bernstein (dam by Wienerwald), who was approved in Verden, sold to Denmark, became champion stallion at the Danish approvals as a 4 year old and sold to Bermudas a few years ago, only to return to the international dressage scene in Spain this summer and taking his audiences by storm. Hopefully, with his strong foal crops and his starting upper level performance record, this stallion will help to manifest the legacy of Banditentraum in Hanover.

A number of Trakehners stallions currently (2006) enjoy full approval status with the Hanoverian Verband in Germany. Some of them, like Latimer or Polarpunkt, have managed to sire approved stallions in Hanover, and in the case of Polarpunkt, his son Peach Pit is already winning big in the FEI dressage ring. Stallions currently approved in Hanover include: EH Angard (by EH Anduc), EH Benz (by EH Rockefeller), Buddenbrock (by EH Sixtus), EH Caprimond (by Karon), Connery (by Buddenbrock), Epernay (by Buddenbrock), Birkenhof's Grafenstolz TSF (by Polarion), Hofrat (by EH Gribaldi), EH Hohenstein (by EH Caprimond), Insterburg TSF (by EH Hohenstein), Interconti (by EH Consul), K2 (by Stradivari), Kaiserdom TSF (by EH Van Deyk), Kaiserkult TSF (by EH Van Deyk), King Arthur TSF (by Buddenbrock), EH Latimer (by Saint Cloud), Le Rouge (by Pret a Porter), Polarpunkt (by EH Arogno), Mephisto (by Sonnenstrahl), EH Michelangelo (by Pasteur xx), EH Monteverdi TSF (by EH Partout), EH Münchhausen TSF (by EH Hohenstein), Preussenprinz (by Majoran), Rastenburg (by EH Van Deyk), Solero TSF (by EH Hyllos), and Tambour (by EH Hohenstein). And there is little doubt that the latest Trakehner champion, Herzensdieb (by Tambour) will have trouble to follow. He is owned by Louise and Douglas Leatherdale from the US, and stationed at Jens Meyer's stallion station in Dorum, already covering Hanoverian mares by the dozen this season.
