In Memoriam: Konvoi
One of the oldest, still active Trakehner breeding stallions in Germany passed away after battling a colic a few days ago. 28yr old Kovoi (by Kalistos x out of Komposition by Elfenglanz) died at his long-time home, Gestüt Frank in Bavaria. Sire Kalistos x was an Angloarabian stallion, and the last active breeding stallion that the legendary breeder Clemens von Nagel (Ramzes AA) stationed at his Stud in Vornholz. Komposition was a foundation mare at Gestüt Hörstein, and Mr. Diehm, owner of Hörstein, decided to breed his noble Elfenglanz-daughter to this excellent French sire. The result was Konvoi, who clearly deserves the label of "tragic hero" in the Trakehner breed. "Tragic", because his long competition career and the remote stations of his life kept him from breeding sufficient numbers, and "hero" because even with the few foals he sired, Kovoi made a name for himself as a top notch sport horse producer. His career began in Neumünster, where he was approved as a 2yr old. Owner Mr. Diehm had plans for the stallion, so he did not go to auction. Konvoi returned from the 100 day test in Warendorf with a 4th place (128.35 points) and began his eventing career with Martin Plewa. He was later ridden by Olympic champion Ralf Ehrenbrink and finally Imke Karsten, the daughter of Germany's international top rider and coach Host Karsten. Among the many outstanding results during his career, the 4th place at the National Eventing Championships in 1989 and the 13th place at the European Championships in Lausanne in 1989 stan out for Konvoi. Konvoi stood at gestüt Hörstein, then Gestüt Forsthaus Papke in Holstein and finally since 2002 at Gestüt Frank. As a sire, he produced around 30 registered daughters, of which several scored 9.0 for their jumping ability and potential at inspections, free jumping cups and mare performance tests. Konvoi's get compete at S level in dressage, M/A level in show jumping and international eventing. Thankfully in 2006, his outstanding son Gandalf (a Trakehner out of the Arabian mare Ghani Bint Khaled ox) was approved as the Champion stallion at the Arabian inspections, and has since then qualified for the BUndeschampionat in eventing and most recently also placed internationally. Maybe in the form of Gandalf, his high-quality sire will finally get the recognition he deserved! A truly outstanding sport horse sire has left the breed once and for all, with a pedigree of international quality and the performance record to back it up. Hopefully, this last chance in the form of his son will not be missed! Godspeed, Konvoi!

Three new Trakehner Elite Stallions in Germany
Three new elite stallions have been announced by the Trakehner Verband in 2010. Distelzar, Hibiskus and Insterburg TSF will froom now on carry the coveted "E.H." title in their names. EH Distelzar (by EH Gribaldi out of Distelgold by EH Arogno, mare family of S40 Dolly) was bred by Gestüt Lindenhof am Berg in Gielert and is owned by Marie Wüthrich of Switzerland. After many years at Klosterhof Medingen's stallion station and a very successful young horse dressage career, Distelzar finally re-appeared in competition in 2010 and had tremendous success. he placed and won at international Grand Prix dressage level and also placed 2nd at the Swiss National Championships. As a young stallion, he was the price highlight at the Trakehner Elite Auction at Klosterhof Medingen (600,000DM) and to this day and despite normal covering numbers, produced 8 approved sons, of which several have promising sport careers. EH Hibiskus (by EH Latimer out of Hirtennacht by EH Hohenstein, mare family of T14O3 Herbstblüte, von Schöning, Kl. Sallentin) was the NMS Reserve Champion in 2002 and was sold to Gestüt Sommerlade before that auction. He began his stallion career most successfully, competed in young horse dressage classes and also stood with Ingrid Klimke for some time. However, his sport career was cut short in the face of his popularity and demand in the breeding shed, and he was later acquired by Gestüt Wiesenhof when the Sommerlade herd was dispersed. Hibiskus had sired several celebrated dressage horse champions under saddle, and continues to be a popular sire in the Trakehner breed. Finally, EH Insterburg TSF (by EH Hohenstein out of E.St. Indira X by Giorgio Armani, mare family of O451 Ilonka, Bongart - Gr. Buchwald) was bred by Hans Derlin, and began his career as a dressage horse under the ownerships of Claudia Post-Schultzke. Insterburg TSF was approved as a premium stallion in Leverkusen in 2003. With Carola Koppelmann in the saddle, the very talented black stallion won bronze medals at the FEI World Champinships in Verden and also the Bundeschampionat, qualified for the Nürnberg Burgpokal and entered international Grand Prix dressage competitions successfully until his sale in early 2010. His new owner is the Swedish young rider Antonia Ramel, who plans to continue his show career.

Trakehner Stallion of the Year - E.H. Buddenbrock
The Trakehner Verband awards the title "Stallion of the Year" to a major sire of the breed that stands out based on his success as a performance horse, sire of performance horses and breeding stock. In 2010, the black stallion E.H. Buddenbrock (by E.H. Sixtus out of St.Pr.,Pr.+E.St. Ballerina XXV by Diamant), bred by Horst Ebert of Neckarsteinach and owned by Hubertus Poll of Gestüt Hörem in Gilten was chosen. Buddenbrock was born in 1994 and approved in Neumünster in 1996 as one of only 7 stallions of that entire crop. He was raised and prepared at Gestüt Hörem and comes from very close maternal relation to Hörem's dressage stallion E.H. Benz, which probably promted Hubertus Poll to buy the young colt Buddenbrock in the first place. Out of Buddenbrock's very first foal crop, several sons were presented in Neumünster in 2000. He sired the champin of that year, King Arthur, and another approved stallion, Connery. Both have moved on to very successful performance and breeding careers, and from that year on, Buddenbrock was always good for at least one approved son, several Champin daughters and many highly successful sport horses in all disciplines. Genetically a member of the versatile Burnus AAH - Habicht stallion line, his offspring relfect this dual talent with competition results in all Olympic disciplines, up to international level. Buddenbrock only competed briefly, but qualified for the Bundeschampionat in eventing, competed and placed in the finals under Andreas Dibowski. Today, 10 years after his first son entered the arean at Neumünster, Buddenborock has proven that he is not only a great, modern ambassador for the Trakehner breed, but a stallion of international format, with approval status in most German stud books and offspring on several continents competing as rideable, reliable, sound and talented sport horses. Buddenbrock is a true major sire of the Trakehner breed and has helped tremendously to put the Habicht line on an even broader basis. Congratulations to his breeder Horst Ebert and his owner, Hubertus Poll. May we have him around for many more years to come!

Trakehner Sporthorse of the Year - Seacookie TSF
Based on his success in eventing, especially at the 2010 Burghley Horse Trials CCI****, the Trakehner Verband awarded the title "Sporthorse of the Year" to Seacookie TSF (by Helikon xx out of Sonnenwende by Onassis*E*). Seacookie TSF was bred by Walter Elxnar in Germany, developed by Ingrid Klimke and won the Bundeschampionat in Germany in 2004. In 2006, he won and placed at ** level with Ingrid Klimke, and turned his debut at *** level into another win in early 2007. He was champion of the German Derby Dynamik Cup, a series for younger event horses, and also placed at the CHIO in Aachen. He was the most successful Trakehner eventer in Germany that year and his breeder was awarded the prestigious Dr.-Fritz-Schilke-Memorial Award in Silver. In 2008, he sold to Catherine und David Witt, Rookery Park Stud, Worleston, England and was placed with William Fox-Pitt, one of the world's most successful eveters and current Team World Champions from Kentucky 2010. William Fox-Pitt and Seacookie TSF placed high in their first season, e.g. at the Tattersalls CCI*** World Cup, Barbury CIC** and Boekelo CCI***. In 2009 the pair debuted at **** level and placed 6th at the Lexington Kentucky CCI**** and 7th at the Burghley Horse Trials CCI****. In 2010 placings at Aston-Le-Walls (5th) and at the Festival of British Eventing in Gatcombe (2nd), lead to a start at the classic Badminton CCI****, where after a good dressage, the horse had to be pulled prior to cross country due to a minor injury. The disappointment about this missed opportunity did not last long, and in September of 2010, Seacookie TSF and his rider finished one fo the world's toughest courses, the Burghley Horse Trials CCI**** after clear rounds cross country and in stadium jumping on a spectacular 2nd place. Congratulations to the Elxnat family, owners Catherine und David Witt and rider Williams Fox-Pitt.

New stallion German Verband approved!
It is our pleasure to announce the latest approval for the Trakehner breed: Horalas *Pg*E* (by Veimaras out of Hipogeja by Gret - Hromogen - Topol ox, mare family of O369 Prosa Kirow Stud - Russia), the international show jumper and accomplished sire of international show jumpers, is now fully approved by the German Trakehner Verband, and hence accepted worldwide. Horalas was bred by Nemuno Stud in Lithuania, and competed for his home farm at international show jumping events (for example, he won the World Cup Qualifier in Vilnius). He was then acquired by Diane and Jim Rushing from California, USA, and was ridden most successfully for the Rushing's Equibalt Company by legendary US show jumper Hap Hansen. Horalas jumped at the major events in North America, from Indio to Calgary, and finished in the money at the world's most rewarding event, the CN International at Spruce Meadows, which has a purse of 1 Mio Dollars. With Horalas, Hap Hansen won his 100th Grand Prix in the saddle, and also participated at the US Selection Trials for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004. Horalas, who comes from highly proven bloodlines and shares his dam line with the Russian sires Emiras DS and Eufratas in Germany, carries the "Performance Gold" designation from the ATA for the success he had as a competition horse. He also carries the "Elite Stallion" designation for the fact that he has several approved sons in Europe. Horalas' offspring are currently competing internationally in show jumping. A detailed pedigree analysis, photos and videos will be available shortly on Horalas' new German website, which will go online prior to Neumünster. Thank you Kim for working out a great deal! We would like to congratulate Jim and also Diane, in memoriam, who we know smiles from above about the success her Henry has now after his active performance career is over. Congratulations are also due to Margaret MacGregor from Holders Hill Trakehners in Illinois, who brought Henry's breeding career back on track and is giving him a great new home. Horalas will be available via frozen semen of outstanding quality all over Europe beginning this winter 2010/2011.

And at the beginning of the month, Trakehners dominated the CNC*** and ** divisions. Bettina Hoy and Lafranco TSF (by Bulrush xx - Karon) placed 2nd in the CNC*** and Michael Jung and Vincent TSF (by Grafenstolz - Almox Prints J) won the CIC** with 7 points in the lead. 4th in this division was Don Juan M (by EH Manrico - EH Consul) with Constantin von Ziegner, followed on 10th position by Lacorna (by Cornus - Native Guile xx) with Kai-Steffen Meier.

In Memoriam: E.H. Beg xx
At age 28, the first and so far only Elite Thouroughbred stallion in the Trakehner breed, Beg xx, passed away after a colic attack. Born in Estonia, the bay stallion had an international career iin show jumping and also evented at advanced levels before he was sold to Germany. His entire career in Germany, he was at home at Gestüt Hörstein in Bavaria. Beg xx produced a number of premium mares for the stud book and is the sire of 5 approved sons, of which Sky Dancer and Prokofiev competed at FEI levels (show jumping and dressage, respectively). Beg xx sired a number of successful competition horses for all disciplines, and was one of the most valuable, proven and best-liked TB stallions in the younger Trakehner breed. Our condolences to Gestüt Hörstein and the Diehm family.

Songline is Bundeschampion!!
The 2006 Neumünster Champion Stallion Songline (by Summertime - Exclusiv), bred by Gestüt Hämelschenburg and owned by Gustav Schickedanz/CAN won the German Bundeschampionat of 6yr old Event Horses under Olympic Champion Andreas Dibowski. The stallion nailed the highest score of the day in the finals, which are comprised of a Young Dressage Horse Class at L level, a Young Show Jumper class at 1.25m and an Intermediate level cross country course, which counts twice towards the final score. Songline already qualified for the FEI World Championships of Young Event Horses in Lion d'Angers/FRA later this year. Andreas Dibowski plans to show the stallion there after his return from the WEG in Kentucky.

More Trakeners placed in the finals. Lady You GM (by Houston - Solo xx), bred by Gestüt Grigoleit and owned by Friederike Topphoff-Kaup placed 6th in the finals of the 6yr old division, after she already placed last year in the 5yr old division. The approved premium stallion Halimey Go (by Askar AA - Pardon Go), bred by Gestüt Gorlo and owned by the Bavarian State Stud in Schwaiganger placed 10th in the 5yr old division under Robert Sirch.

In Memoriam: Kronprinz and Timotheus
What a sad week for Trakehner friends in Germany and the US. The State Stud Marbach announced the passing of their hopeful 5yr old black premium stallion Kronprinz (by EH Hohenstein - EH Sixtus). The stallion, who was approved in Neumünster in 2007 (breeder: Bernd Berge, Germaany) sustained such a bad tendon injury a few weeks ago that he could not be saved and was euthanized. Marbach's stud manager, Dr. Astrid von Velden-Zerweck posted online what a blow this was, a great loss to the farm. "Kronprinz was one of our most popular stallions and had such a great future ahead of him". Several of his foals won premiums and championships in South Germany, also out of local warmblood mares, and the stallion had won several Young Dressage Horse classes at L level.

In the US, the Trakehner community mourns the passing of the approved 11yr old bay Timotheus (by EH Caprimond - Avignon II). The stallion was bred by Bonnie Brabs from California and recently sold to stand at Jow Pimmental's Aqua Farms in Florida. Timotheus was found dead in his stall in the morning after an uneventful night. He was the only approved son of EH Caprimond in North America, and only leaves a handful of purebred Trakehner offspring in the ATA books. Our condolences to the people of Kronprinz and Timotheus.

Opposition Buzz named to British WEG Eventing Team
Team GBR announced that the 13yr old gelding Opposition Buzz, bred and owned by Rosemary Search and ridden by Nicole Wilson, is named to the official British squat for the upcoming Alltech WEG in Kentucky, USA. Opposition Buzz was a reserve horse for the 2008 Olympics in China, placed in both Burghley and Badminton and has had one of the most consistent **** careers in the past years, also taking 9th at the European Championships in 2009. The dark bay gelding is a son of the Trakehner eventing sire Fleetwater Opposition, a descendant of the Komet stallion line, which is clearly underrepresented in today's Trakehner world. The dam Jungle Bee is a registered British Sporthorse of predominantly TB background, by Java Tiger xx - Sovereign Bill xx.

FEI World Championships of the Young Dressage Horse, Verden, Germany
Last weekend, the FEI World Championships of Young Dressage Horses took place in Verden, Germany. As always, this is a high level event with a lot of media coverage before and after, and we are very thankful to fellow Trakehner enthusiast Stephan Bischoff to keep us posted and also supply us with outstanding photos! Thank you Stephan.

There was only one purebred Trakehner in the entry lists, 5yr old approved stallion Aston Martin, who is maybe Monteverdi's true gem he left us with. His amazing pedigree lists EH Monteverdi TSF as sire, and the dam Anastasia is by EH Sixtus - Silvermoon and then out of a purebred Shagaya Arabian mare family! What more could one ask for. In his phneotype, Aston Martin resembles his dam sire much more than his sire, but clearly received a lot of his high quality gaits, especially the canter, and his impeccable work attitude froom his famous sire. The stallion was bred vy Lone Andersen und Johnny Sørensen from Denmark, and began his career by winning the Danish Trakehner Championships, as well as placing high in the Danish Championships (all breeds) for two years now. He was nominated for Verden right away, and began his first trou by placing 11th in the 5yr old qualifiers, which pllaced him straight in the finals. On sunday, he finished the tour with 8.04 and a final 10th place in this field of international young super stars.

More Trakehner blood was of course represented by other horses. The new 5yr old World Champion Asterix for example is a KWPN son of the black stallion Obelisk, who in turn was sired by the Trakehner stallion Matador. Emmelie Scholtes rode the black stallion to a finish of 9.18. 4th place in this division was won by the horse most experts called the "highlight" in Verden. No other rider presented a horse in such a relaxed, well carried frame. Uta Gräf presented the Rhineland liver chestnut stallion Damon Jerome, son of former FEI WOrld Champion Damon Hill, and out of Jenice/Trak. by Guy Laroche - Elfenprinz. 9th place int he finals went to Minna Telde from Sweden and Isac, who carried some old Trakehner blood in the back of his pedigree with Marco Polo, Heristal, Polarfürst, Hartung and Humboldt.

In the 6yr old division, UNO Donna Uniqua won the class with a huge lead. The very elegant black Danish mare is by Don Schufro, one of the leading dressage sires of our time. Don Schufro carries the "Golden combination" of his breeding farm, Gestüt Gröhnwohldhof in Germany, via Donnerhall - Pik Bube I - Unkenruf *Pg*E* - a pedigree seen in several of that stud's horses, including another exceptional dressage sire, Don Primero.

At the same time, Verden also hosted another qualification event for the prestigious Nürnberger Burgpokal. Karolinger TSF (by EH Latimer TSF - EH Hohenstein) and Alexandra Bimschas placed 3rd in both the qualification and the final rounds (S*, Prix St. George Special), with 69.1%. And thanks to Stephan again, we have those pictures as well.

New approved stallion in North America
At last weekend's Maine inspection, the grey stallion Lord Locksely (by Unkenruf *Pg*E* o/o Lida by Enrico Caruso *Ps*E*) was approved, pending his veterinary exam results. Lord Locksley was bred by Tylord Farm and is owned by Margaret Stevens from Pittsburg. The stallion has a successful performance career at Prix St. George level in dressage and is hence awarded the Performance Silver by the ATA - Lord Locksley *Ps*. His dam Lida also prduced the approved pinto stallion Lord Cosmos (by Cosmopolit), who was approved at the ATA Annual Convention in Tennessee last year.

Halbgott going to the WEG!
1The German bred and approved, ATA registered Trakehner stallion Halbgott (by E.H. Partout - E.H. Consul) and his owner and rider Marco Bernal will represent Marco's native Columbia during the upcoming World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. Halbgott was bred by Toni and Beatrix Elsner and was approved in Neumünster in 1998, named Heaven's Door. He started his under saddle career with Hans-Jürgen Armbrust in Germany. Marco Bernal bought the elegant bay stallion a few years ago after first seeing him as a 3yr old and dreaming of owning him one day. The pair has enjoyed very successful FEI seasons in Florida in the past. As a breeding stallion, Halbgott just recently got back into business and is now fully ATA registered. his first daughter was born in the US this spring. Halbgott's pedigree, which boasts 4 heavily influential stallions in direct combination (EH Partout - EH Consul - Matador - Grimsel) is also unqiue due to his most successul dam line. The Haselrute family also stands for the Grand Prix dressage stallion Herzberg, the top show jumper Hope of Heaven, best jumper in NMS Heldenberg and of course the outstanding EH Hyllos. We wish Marco and Halbgott all the best for their appearance at the WEG!

Neumünster 2010: Preselection of stallion candidates, riding horses, mares and foals
Hard to believe that it is this time of year again! The Trakehner Verband in Germany begins with its selection tour shortly. We are opening our "Neumünster 2010" link here on TI. Please follow the link to your left on the sidebar - NMS 2020 - for all further information about this big event and the preliminary list of candidates on the selection tour. A few important notes right away: the group of riding horses will be smaller this year, but of higher quality, and with the best vetting possible. The Verband hopes to raise awareness for the auction of only the highest quality riding horses among sport riders, porfessionals and amateurs alike. Also please note that the auction of riding horses will not take place on sunday, but on a new day: Friday, Oct 29th, in the evening!! Please also note that the triangle will no longer be part of the stallion presentation. However, the entire friday is now reserved for the free jumping performance, putting athleticims into a new focus at Neumünster.

Stay tuned for more!!

Sensation in Kentucky!
At the North American Championships in Eventing (Juniors and Young Riders), the individual Gold and Silver medals in the Young Rider division were won by Trakehners!! Kelly Pugh and her grey mare Copycat Chloe (by Stiletto *Ps* o/o Copy's Dancer xx by Alezan Dancer) tied for 2nd place after dressage, moved to 3rd after 4 time penalties on the demanding cross country course, and put in one of only two double clear stadium rounds to win Gold with 55.9 points. Silver went to Missy Miller and TSF Amazing Grace (by Tycoon (the German one) o/o Artemis xx by Lagunas xx), who was 10th after dressage, moved to 6th after a fast cross country round that only cost them 1 sec over the time, and was the second horse to go double clear during the stadium phase for a finish with 58.7 points. TSF Amazing Grace was also a member of the Gold medal winning team (Area III), while Copycat Chloe also took a team medal - Silver, for Area VI and VII!

Copycat Chloe, who was born in 2002, is an American bred Trakehner who stems from the breeding program at Riley Farms. She was started as a youngster by Kelly Pugh, who also owns her and truly has a unique relationship with her mare. TSF Amazing Grace, born 1997 in Germany, already had an international career in Europe before moving to the US in 2007, where she was brought back to competition by the Miller family and their trainer Lesley Grant. Interstingly, both mares are out of approved TB mares, and both sires have made a name for themselves as versatile producers. Congratulations to Kelly, Missy, and all involved!!

Bits & Pieces - news from around the world
8One of the all-time great Trakehner eventers has passed the rainbow bridge: White Girl TSF (by Bajar ShA - Marengo, pictured left) passed away with 27yrs at her last retirement home in Germany. The grey mare was Peter Thomsen's ticket to the big leagues in the 1990s, and was Germany's most successful eventer for many years. She finished Badminton, ran two European Championships, placing 5th at Achselschwang in 1995, won "Trakehner of the Year" awards and also participated at the 1995 Atlanta Olympics. White Girl TSF was the epitome of an old style eventer with an unparalleled willingness and sturdyness cross country and a beauty that helped win her win the title "Horse of the Year" in Germany. Very sadly, her breeding career didn't see her in the Trakehner breed - 4 foals by the Holsteiner stallion Lehnbach were born, but not once was she bred to a Trakehner. What a loss! Godspeed White Girl! You will be missed!

At the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, Team Canada/Ontario won Team Silver in the Young Rider division. Part of the team is Amy Jager with her gelding Key West (by EH Charly Chaplin), who was bred in Germany by the Gerke Family of Uslar, and is owned by Claudia and Ruth Demand of Ontario, CAN. Not quite 2 points kept the Team from winning Gold! Congratulations Team Key West!!

Lafranco TSF (by Bulrush xx - Karon) has claimed the top spot in Bettina Hoy's international eventing barn. The very talented 10yr old gelding debuted at *** this year with a top ten finish at Luhmühlen a few weeks ago, and now added a win at the CIC** Sahrendorf to his list. Lafranco TSF is a typical product of the eventer breeding program of Gestüt Söderhof in Lower Saxony, which is run by Dr. Lehnhard and his family.

The young show jumper Der Dürer TSF (by Waitaki - Trafaret) has the season of his life. Under new rider Micheal Jung, several S* starts ended up with victorious rounds, again at the CSI Nördlingen, where the two won their first international S class. Another young approved Trakehner stallion placed 5th in the same class: Lichtblick (by Nerv - EH Sixtus) and Philipp Schober were 5 sec. slower. Philipp Schober is best known as the former rider of Altenbach TSF, the chestnut gelding that took him to a spot on the German Team for the European Championships in 2009. He has since been sold to Italy.

At the Dressage Gala Herdolgsberg in Bavaria, Dorothee Schneider and her Kaiserkult TSF (By EH Van Deyk - Gajus) placed 2nd in the S***-Grand Prix Special with a score of 70.043%. The winner of the class was Ulla Salzgeber with her part Trakehner gelding Herzruf's Erbe (by EH Herzruf) and a final score of 76.766%.

In Memoriam: Heops
The approved stallion Heops (by Herson - Pawitsch) had to be put down after a colic attack laston July 8th. With rider Isabell Heckmann, the tall dark bay stallion had a successful career as a show jumper at international levels and was approved by the German Trakehner Verband based on his success in competition. He also enjoyed approval status with other German registries, including Oldenburg, Rhineland and Westfalia. Heops was bred by the Majstrenko Stud in Russia and was last owned by the Sportpferde Heckmann GmbH and stationed at Gestüt Böckmann in Oldenburg. Heops was one of the busiest Trakehner stallions in Germany, covering over 100 mares in his very first year at stud. From his oldest crop, the son Come Close was approved in 2009 as the best jumper in NMS, and 2010 saw the first 3yr old daughters up for inspection. Since free jumping has becoem part of the inspection process in Germany now, several of his daughters left very good impressions in that regard. In the US, Heops is sire of the approved stallion Hofherr, who was bred in Germany and aols via the NMS foal auction. Heops came from one of the breed's oldest mare lines, the T4 Fatme ox line from the Main Stud Trakehnen. His sire competed for Russia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. According to the news from the Trakehner Verband, frozen semen is still available in Germany.

Huno *Ps* at Blainville CDI, Canada
The approved stallion Huno *Ps* (by Magritte - EH Ravel) and owner/rider Lynne Joly of Sherbrooke, Quebec, scored 66.491% iin the Prix St. Georg class, which gave them a great third place. Huno *Ps* is 9yrs old and is a member of the Patricius xx-stallion line through his sire Magritte, a son of EH Van Deyk. Through his dam, Huno comes from one of the breed's best sport horse lines, that of O217b Hannelore (Hollatz - Oberrode). This is the direct family of such outstanding horses as the international Grand Prix stallion Chronos, the FEI dressage stallion Halbgott (now also in the US), the "best jumper" in Neumünster 1994, Heldenberg, the excellent international Grand Prix dressage horse sire EH Hyllos, the young and very promising show jumper Hope of Heaven as well as the exceptional Grand Prix stallion Herzberg (also in the US). Congratulations Lynne, and best of luck for your future!

Outstanding Trakehner results in Show Jumping
Lichtblick, approved son of Nerv - EH Sixtus, had a successful run in Burgstädt under Philipp Schober. 5th in the S* class, 7th in the S* class with jump off and an amazing 3rd place in the S** with two rounds was the resume of a great weekend. The same show was also a winning ground for another Nerv-offspring: Allenstein and Jenny Zimpel won the M** class with two rounds. In the same class, Antje Schöniger and Altinus by Waitaki placed 6th. The pair won another M* class. In Marne in Holstein, Hirtentanz placed in his first S* class with new rider Thies Luther.

Two Trakehner stallions win at State Championships
Two Trakehner stallion in two disciplines gave the competition a run for their money. At the Tübingen State Championships, Michael Jung and the approved Der Dürer TSF (by Waitaki - Trafaret), who was bred and is owned by Dr. Mechthild Strümpfel, won the Big Tour S* show jumping class as well as another S* with Jump Off. The stallion only recently relocated to Michael Jung, who is best known as a world class eventer, multiple *** winner with the Baden-Württemberg branded gelding Sam and also the former rider of Grafenstolz TSF. In the dressagr ring, it was another approved Trakehner stallion who took the highest honors. Gestüt Birkhof's chief rider Falk Stankus won the S* class with 68.083% on board Birkhof's Meraldik (by EH Münchhausen TSF - Caramel xx). His dam Herka xx is a full sister to the legendary sire Heraldik xx. Both stallions are also rather young: Der Dürer TSF is 9yrs old, while Meraldik is only 8yrs old.

Hinnerk TSF sold!
Eurodressage.com reports today that the Trakehner Grand Prix gelding Hinnerk TSF (by EH Buddenbrock - EH Ravel) has been sold. The chestnut gelding, who began his career with Carola Koppelmann, was recently shown by Hubertus Schmidt of Germany. Hinnerk TSF was owned by German National Tem Coach Holger Schmezer, and had a very steady career up to winning at the international level in dressage. He comes from a family of excellent dressage horses, and is a close relative to the approved stallion Hulian. Both horses are now owned by French riders. Hinnerk TSF was sold to Young Rider Julie Pellerin, who will make her transition to Grand Prix with him. She is trained by Isabelle and Carlos Pinto, who also helped her acquire the 11yr old.

Kaspare (Key West) and Amy Jager - the Canadian Dream Team
In 2003, the Neumünster Auction lot held several highly talented dressage prospects. Throughout the months prior to that event, we at TI had gotten to know Canadians Ruth and Claudia Demandt, two successful business women and riders with a passion for Trakehners. They were no strangers to Neumünster - in 2002, they acquired several horses and also bid on the second price highlight, Schwadroneur-son Trinity. After his move to Canada, Trinity was successfully developed by the sisters to Prix St. Georg level and then sold. We have very fond memories of our 4 exciting days with Ruth and Claudia - endless catalogue consultations and wonderful discussions; eventually a friendship that flourished and has given us a chance to visit Canada, see the horses years later, and marvel at their progess. A steady and very focused education is a key ingredient of the Demandt's success in developing youngsters. They team up with good riders, and also sponsor young riders whenever they can. The good for the breed? All of this helps to spread the word of the high trainability and rideability of Trakehner horses - amateur owners with amateur riders doing extremely well in a very competitive world! Thank you, Ruth and Claudia, for a job so well done!!

Ruth and Immens aka Indiana Jones

1

In 2003, a total of 5 horses started their treck overseas: from the lot of unapproved colts, Immens (by EH Buddenbrock x EH Consul), Konstantin (EH Charly Chaplin x EH Arogno) and Krombacher (EH Gribaldi x EH Caprimond) joined the gelding Sky Rocket (by Steinburg x EH Lehndorffs) and the stallion Kaspare (by EH Charly Chaplin x EH Arogno) on the plane to Toronto. Immens renamed Indiana Jones, or Indie for short, became Ruth's personal riding horse and showed great talent over jumps, which eventually gave him a chance in Hunters/Jumpers. Krombacher was renamed Keiren and has a solid 3rd level career with an amateur owner now. Sky Rocket sold early on and Konstantin, renamed Klouseau, was given a year to grow up, and had a stellar 5 and 6yr old FEI career with owner Whiteny Harris. He is now at advanced levels as well, and will hopefully follow in his big brother's foot steps. That big brother is of course Kaspare, whose show name is Key West. Kaspare was started with care, and ridden in his first international shows by Ether Mortimer, a native of Canada with a Guatemalan passport. They enjoyed their first victories at Proix St. Georg level - when Kaspare was just 7 years old! And less than 2 years ago, Amy Jager took over. She had already been on a Canadian Young Rider Team, which took her and her Dutch Warmblood gelding Jive to Germany last winter. With Kaspare, she now hopes to make the Team again, and things are looking very good. At their most recent show, the CDI Blainville in Canada, Amy and Kaspare won all three FEI Young Rider Classes with scores of 64.4% (Team test), 67.65% (Individual test) and 70.25% (Freestyle). We wish Amy, Ruth, Claudia, their families of of course the horses all the best for the next shows and hopefully we'll see you again at Neumünster one day!

Summary of Sport Results
Things are going very well for the Trakehner sporthorse this spring. Here is our summary of sport results at the upper levels and some good news with regards to big name riders on Trakehner and part-Trakehner horses!

Ingrid Klimke has a new young Trakehner stallion in her care. The approved Glenn Grant (by EH Buddenbrock - EH Consul), bred by Gestüt Hörem and owned by Gestüt WIesenhof in Krefeld, moved to the Klimke Stable in Münster. The two apparently found their match quickly. Only a few weeks after taking over, Ingrid and the bay stallion won the Combined Training Level division at the show in Münster-Bölting. This also constitues the first of three ncessary qualification scores for the Bundeschampionat of the German Event Horse in 2010.

The part-Trakehner mare Girasol (by EH Gribaldi - Landioso/Holst.), who is one of the most talked-about younger German Grand Prix horses, sold to Gina Capellmann, former inidivual World Champion in dressage. Girasol is a branded Baden-Württemberg warmblood, and like so many of that breed, carries substantial Trakehner blood further back in her maternal pedigree. Her second dam Karina is by Kalman, who was sired by the Trakehner Kastor and was out of a Lothar-dam.

Dorothee Schneider and her approved stallion Kaiserkult TSF (by EH Van Deyk - Gajus) have been named to the German B2 Team and already started in one Nationa's Cup in France this year. The nomination reflects the very solid success this particular pair has enjoyed in dressage over the past years, and we're hoping there is more to come. At the same time, Dorothee is also the new rider of the very talented younger Trakehner stallion Impetus (by Vivus - Feingeist), who recently loved to her barn. Congratulations!

Eventing:

In Salgen, Young Rider Melanie Held and her dad's former **** gelding Salino TSF (by Saint Cloud - Kassius) won the CIC** with a final score of 55.3%. At the CIC** in Wahlstorf-Liepe, Constantin von Ziegner and Don Juan M (by EH Manrico - EH Consul) placed 11th, followed by Alexandra Wener with Kaitika M (by Waitaki - Machandel) on position 14. And at the CCI* in Everswinkel, which saw 94 (!) entries, Ben Leuwer and Cappucino (by I-Punkt - Memelruf) placed 7th on their dressage score of 54.9. In the second division, Julia Fehlhauer and Poupee de Cire (by Amelio - Ibikus) placed 2nd, right before Josephine Schnaufer with Sambucca (by Handryk - Inkognito) on 3rd place. Bettina Hoy and Lafranco TSF (by Bulrush xx - Karon) won the CCI** at Houghton Hall in the UK on a final score of 43.7 points.

Dressage:

The list of successes froom Germany is truly long, so we'll try and focus on the more substantial events and wins. Just so much for now: the number of approved stallions winning and placing at M and S levels is outstanding, and includes such names as In Flagranti, Showtime, Kaiserdom TSF, Kasimir, Donaudichter, and others.

At the big dressage show in Aulendorf (Baden-Württemberg), the Inter II class saw Kevin (by EH Herzruf - Flaneur) with Renate Bohr-Grimmel as 6th. In the Inter I, the 8yr old approved Birkhof's Meraldik (by EH Münchhausen TSF - Caramel xx) and Falk Stankus placed 2nd. This pair is also trying out for a ticket to the Nürnberg Burgpokal this winter. At the CDN - A* /CDN-B Weikersdorf in Austria, the Austrian-approved, purebred Trakehner Isarbube (by Polarpunkt - Alarm III) and rider Robert Orsolits placed 3rd in the Inter II. They also took home a 4th place in the Grand Prix with a final score of 66.6%. 5th in the Grand Prix was the grey stallion Lamborgini (by EH Hyllos - Tarim), who was formerly ridden at international level by Anja Plöntzke. He is now shown by his owner Catherine Michelfeit and scored 63.121%.

At the CDI Borken, Dutch rider Susanne de Klein placed 4th with 66,170% in the Grand Prix on her 10 yr old Trakehner gelding Prins (pedigree not known, we're investigating!). The pair then won the Grand Prix Freestyle with 74.625%.

Show Jumping:

Three young approved Trakehner stallions are having a very good season so far. Dramatiker (by Bardolino - Altan II) scores well in the 8-8.5 range at Young Show Jumper classes at L level with Ramona Schillocks. 5yr old Hope of Heaven (by Alaskatraum - Symbol) and Hans-Günter Klein had an outstanding weekend at the show in Zeiskam. They won the Young Show Jumper Class at L level and placed 2nd in another such class, which also served as the first qualification round for the M level class counting towards the Bundeschampionat for the German Show Jumper. The final score of 8.2 in the M class was rewarded with a 3rd place and the ticket for the Bundeschampionat! And finally Phlox (by Waitaki - Unesco) and Wolfgang Schmidt placed 2nd in Young Show Jumper Class at L level with a score of 7.2. It is quite possible that all three will end up in Warendorf at the Bundeschampionat this summer!

At the show in Langenleuba-Oberhain, Ulrich Buschmann and his 9yr old Kurt (by Nerv - Egoist) placed 7th in a show jumper S* class. With similar breeding, the approved Lichtblick (by Nerv - EH Sixtus) and Phillip Schober, won two S* classes at the show in Kalkreuth - both wins were with doublke-clear rounds and significant time over the 2nd place! And another approved show jumper is leaving his mark this spring: Der Dürer TSF (by Waitaki - Trafaret) and Michael Jung were double clear in the first round of the S* in Nordstetten-Horb, but had three faults in the jump off. Nevertheless, they placed 7th in this big class. The team had previously won several S classes after they started their career together earlier in 2010.

Insterburg TSF sold
Ridsport.se and Eurodressage.com report the sale of the highly acclaimed Trakehner stallion Insterburg TSF (by EH Hohenstein - Giorgio Armani) to Sweden. The 11yr old black stallion was brought along by German Carola Koppelmann and enjoyed a highly successful career with her from the Bundeschampionat to the FEI World Championships in Verden and the international dressage scene. The pair won several Grand Prixs, Freestyles and Specials, and were last seen together (and successfully so) at the CDI Neumünster in February. Insterburg TSF is considered as one of the best younger European dressage horses.

Insterburg TSF is now owned by the family of Swedish Young Rider Antonia Ramel, who is also the new rider of Insterburg TSF. Antonia and Insterburg TSF will debut in Sweden this month and are planned to appear at the CDI in Hamburg, March 14th-16th 2010. For now it is planned to continue Insterburg's successful breeding career as well.

Tanzpartner for Africa
It's no secret that we're "international". But our latest adventure was intruiging, even for us! Together with Erhard Schulte and Stephanie Herken-Wendt from Gestüt Majenfelderhof in Germany, we sold the approved Trakehner Tanzpartner to Africa! Congratulations dear Jodi, Annette and Heiko, the new owner partnership from South Africa and Namibia that acquired this 2005 son of another former TI Sales Horse: the FEI dressage stallion Schiffon *Ps* (bred in Denmark, approved and competed in Germany, now at home in the US). Tanzpartner's dam is famous Tanzstunde II by EH Hohenstein out of SPS,PS+ES Tänzerin V by EH Consul, a maternal half sister of the three elite stallions and top sport horse sires EH Tuareg, EH Tivano and EH Tenor. Tanzpartner, who was approved in Germany in 2007, has one (championship winning) foal crop on the ground and passed a his 70 day test - with especially good scores for his show jumping and cross country performance. We are very happy for Team Majenfelde, who will have Tanzpartner for training until his quarantine starts in the summer, and we wish you, Jodi, Annette and Heiko, all the best and hopefully many many years with your new stallion!!

Three Trakehners approved by the ZSAA
The Arabian Sport Horse Registry in Germany approved three Trakehner stallions as part-breds for their Anglo book. These are B.B.King by Best before Midnight out of Bella Marjell by Machandel, bred by Karin Schmidt and owned by Dr. Reiner Strojek-Baunack; Priamos by Leonardo da Vinci AA out of Pete by Rastenberg, bred and owned by Ursula Schäfer, and the exciting Wunderknabe by EH Parforce out of West Virginia by Sascha. Bred and owned by Franz Hörmiller, Wunderknabe's grand mother is ES Wundermädel xx, the dam of Windfall. Wundeknabe already won two Training Level events in Austria and is the first approved son of the S level show jumper Parforce. Hopefully, he will by presented to the Trakehner Verband later in life, as he stems from a sire line that has an international reputation in eventing (Habicht) and comes from a dam line that has produced numerous international event horses.

1In Memoriam: E.H. Gribaldi
What a devastating blow for the Trakehner breed at the beginning of 2010! News reached us that the top dressage stallion E.H. Gribaldi passed away after battling a tear in his aorta for two days at the Telgte Veterinary Hospital in Germany. Gribaldi had just recently returned to his homeland after a contract was signed between his owners, the van Uytert station, and Paul Schockemöhle's famous stud to stand the imposing black stallion for a wider book in Germany, and produce some quality frozen semen at the same time. Gribaldi's career was one straight forward shot at stardom, and began literally when he hit the straw at his birth in Marika Werner's small private stud in Mittenaar, Germany. He was born on a sunday, and within days, Otto Langels, the breeder and owner of Gribaldi's great sire Kostolany showed up and inquired about him. Otto bought Gribaldi, and presented him at the Neumünster Stallion Inspections in 1995 - by that time, van Uytert already knew about him and really wanted him. He had to pay a hefty price for the 1995 Champion Stallion, but what a great investment this turned out to be! Gribaldi won the KWPN inspectors over, passed an excellent performance test, and moved up the ranks of international Grand Prix dressage under Edward Gal. He earned all titles there are to earn - Trakehner Verband Elite, KWPN keur and preferent. Gribaldi bred huge books of mares, and was equally liked by his many Dutch fans and his German Trakehner fans. 15 approved sons in various stud books, and many S level competitors would have been a huge achievement in their own right, but the big black stallion topped himself. With Moorland's Totilas, Sisther de Jeu and Painted Black, three of the Dutch Top Ten international horses are sired by Gribaldi. Likely many more will follow. In his own population, Gribaldi made a very late entry as a breeding sire, but produced such noteable horses as E.H. Hofrat, S level winner himself and sire of great dressage horses, among them the stunning Hanoverian Champion Hotline. Gribaldi is also sire of the great Distelzar, who stands out as a positive dressage sire whose get also usually know how to jump very well.

Gribaldi was just recently retired from competition in a heart-warming ceremondy during the 2010 Stallion Days in De Bosch. His many fans said thank you, and bit him farewell to a much deserved retirement as a breeding stallion of international magnitude. Only a few days ago, he passaged next to Sandro Hit at Schockemöhle's big stallion show in Germany. And now he is no more. It is up to his sons and daughters to carry the torch now, and with his sire Kostolany still alive and very much in health, it may be time to remember Gestüt Hämelschenburg and its outstanding breeding program. Thank you Gribaldi, and thank you to the breeder, owners, rider, trainer and many others that made "Team Gribaldi" tick for far too short - you gave the Trakehner breed international recognition when we needed it most. Goodspeed Gribaldi!

In Memoriam: Blue Hors Matine
Today, one of the most shining dressage stars of the past years had to be put down after she suffered a broken leg in pasture. Blue Hors Matine, a Danish bred daughter of the Trakehner Silvermoon, won Bronze and Silver medals at the 2006 World Equestrian Games with Danish rider Andreas Helgstrad in the saddle, and captured the heart of countless dressage fans by her exuberant movement and great star qualities. Matine was retired shortly after, following an injury that would not heal. She was heading for a broodmare career at her home, Blue Hors Stud when the accident happened. To revisit this great mare's brilliant performanced, please check out the video below!

Showtime's early start into the season
Canadian Olympian Leonie Bramall and the approved Trakehner stallion Showtime (by Polarpunkt o/o ES Schöner Tag by EH Tenor) began their season early and placed twice at the CDN in Verden, Germany. 9th in the Prix St. Georges Special (66.4175) and 3rd in the Inter I (67.632%), the pair can look back at a highly successful 2009 season and will probably debut at Grand Prix in 2010. Best of luck!

Hirtentanz approved in Holstein
The black approved Trakehner stallion Hirtentanz (by Axis TSF o/o SPS,PS+ES Herzlani by Kostolany) was approved for a "test breeding period" with the German Holsteiner Verband. This is the first time a Trakehner stallion has been approved in the Holsteiner breed in several decades. Hirtentanz, who was bred by Veronika von Schöning in Germany and is owned by David Beattie from the US has placed and won in Young Show Jumper classes at M level in Germany and is well-known to the Holsteiner breeders since he competes in their area mostly. hopefully this opens the door for other outside stallions that provide interesting new blood for the closed stud book of the Holsteiner breed! Our congratulations to the breeder and owner of Hirtentanz!
