2014 marks a year of some rather significant changes in the approval process. For the first time, 3yr old Trakehner colts will be presented under saddle. Only non Anglo-Trakehners have to be shown under saddle, the old rule for colts with at least one parent of full blood (xx, ox, AA, ShA) still applies, meaning they can be shown in hand only. The majority of colts will still be the usual 2yr old stallion candidate, but the Verband is attempting to focus more on under saddle ability and pure conformation quality in the future, hence the first test of this new format.
